Infectious Diseases

The Infectious Diseases Department aims at early diagnosis and dedicated treatment of infectious diseases in hospitalized young patients, but also in children visiting the Outpatient Clinic. It is staffed with expert doctors, who use the latest diagnostic lab and imaging techniques available at IASO Children’s Hospital.

Young inpatients

Consultation is provided to children hospitalized due to underlying infection, but also to children at other pediatric departments, such as Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiac Surgery, ENT, and the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The conditions may include:

  • Respiratory infections and complicated pneumonias
  • Recurrent or complicated urinary tract infections
  • Soft tissue, bone and joint infections
  • Central nervous system infections
  • Postoperative infections and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI)

 

Outpatient Department

The Infectious Diseases Department essentially provides consultation and treatment in the area of prevention and management of pediatric infections on an outpatient basis. It mainly caters for infants, children and adolescents with common, but also complicated and chronic infections. Children are usually referred to the Department by a Pediatrician or Obstetrician/Gynecologist, after being examined at the Emergency Department or following hospitalization.

 

The conditions may include:

  • Recurrent strep infections
  • Recurrent staph infections
  • Frequent or recurrent febrile cases
  • Special infections (e.g. toxoplasmosis)
  • Diagnosis and follow-up of congenital infections
