Dermatology
Pediatric SectorThe Dermatology Department specialists examine and treat infants and children with conditions of the skin, hair and nails.
Skin conditions may be:
- inherited, either existing from birth or developing later, and
- infectious, which are caused by bacteria (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus), viruses (molluscum contagiosum, warts), fungi or parasites.
When it comes to inherited diseases, early diagnosis is very important in terms of treating the affected child and undergoing thorough prenatal screening for a future child in the family.
Skin infections are treated accordingly (e.g. removal of molluscum contagiosum lesions and warts).
In addition, systemic conditions may start with skin manifestations and pediatric dermatology specialists may often assist in diagnosing and treating a systemic disease.
Skin examinations of pigmented moles are also performed, while instructions are provided for managing and treating hemangiomas and vascular dysplasia.
