1st Vascular Surgery Department
Surgical Sector"Vascular surgery is a specialty where very often what is technically possible is necessarily humanly prudent"
We welcome you to the website of the 1st Vascular Surgery Department of IASO Thessalias.
Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty that deals with the treatment of all diseases of the vessels, both arteries and veins, except those of the heart and coronary vessels. The various reasons why our blood vessels get damaged are more or less known. These include smoking, cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, obesity or high blood pressure. Heredity also plays an important role.
Our specialized associates' many years of experience and the state-of-the-art equipment of IASO Thessalias makes it possible for us to cover the entire spectrum of vascular surgery and angiology, and to offer both diagnostic and therapeutic services of the highest quality.
We offer a full range of high-quality diagnostic services both non-invasive (vascular ultrasound/triplex-doppler, gait test, CT and MRI angiography) and invasive (digital subtraction angiography - DSA).
We are even able, within the framework of digital subtractive angiography, if indicated, to simultaneously proceed to the performance of intraluminal angioplasty (known as stent or balloon angioplasty) and offer an immediate solution to the patient without unnecessary loss of valuable therapeutic time. We are thus able to perform angioplasty of the carotid arteries, the upper and lower limbs, the abdominal and thoracic aorta, the visceral arteries as well as the deep venous system and the arteriovenous fistulas.
We provide a full range of open arterial interventions including peripheral artery bypass, carotid endarterectomy, abdominal aorta and iliac artery replacement in the context of aneurysmal or obstructive disease, and embolectomy in case of acute obstruction of the vessels. We also offer the option of performing hybrid surgical procedures, i.e. a combination of open and intraluminal techniques, providing patients with the best possible solution.
We specialize in the treatment of varicose veins, commonly known as phlebitis. We can intervene at the level of the small visible veins (spider veins) with a painless and bloodless injection of a special drug (a procedure known as sclerotherapy). In the
case of greater venous insufficiency, we provide both minimally invasive intraluminal procedures (Laser, RF radiofrequency, VenaSeal) and the traditional open surgery procedure.
We look forward to welcoming you in our calm and fully equipped outpatient clinics in order to discuss your problems and find the ideal therapeutic solution.
Kind Regards,
Nektarios Galanis
Director of the 1st Vascular Surgery Department
