The Department of Medical Oncology participates in the ordinary Oncology Council for decisions concerning the treatment of cancer patients, with the participation of a multidisciplinary medical team. The Oncology Council includes the surgeons of the various specialties (each for their own specialty), the medical oncologists for chemotherapy and the radiation oncologists. Furthermore, the pathologists who study the exact type of each tumor under the microscope, the diagnostic radiologists who study the imaging of the disease and doctors of other specialties, on a case-by-case basis. In the Council meetings, the most appropriate treatment or treatments for each case, the order in which they will be carried out and the exact protocol for each one, are determined.
