Fully equipped and staffed by top specialists, the Department performs all simple and specialized tests on neonates during their stay at IASO. In particular: Echocardiography for diagnostic purposes can directly lead to a therapeutic intervention, either in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) or in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at IASO Children’s Hospital, where, using the latest techniques, very small preterm neonates, weighing even 1,000 grams, can be effectively treated. To a significant extent, neonatal cardiac arrhythmias are manageable inside the NICU. The assistance provided by the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, operating on a 24/7 stand by basis to manage any potential complications that may occur during the interventional therapy, is of crucial importance. The cooperation amongst the Departments of NICU, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiac surgery, guarantees the safest treatment possible of severe cardiac diseases in neonates, especially those born pretermly.
