The Breast Center was established in 1996 by Antonios Keramopoullos, Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology, in an area close to the Imaging, Anatomic Pathology and Nuclear Medicine Departments.

The Breast Department is headed by Antonios Keramopoullos, while it also employs three Directors (D. Baltas, N. Bredakis, V. Gaki) and four Associate Directors (K. Ampela, N. Louvrou, K. Bouloukos, D. Keramopoullos). All these professionals dedicate over 90% of their time on breast conditions, especially cancer. There are also eight other associate registrars employed at the Department (P. Papageorgiou, I. Papadogiannakis, S. Efkarpidis, Ch. Karampinas, M. Bempi, I. Lymperopoulou, M. Angelopoulos, G. Karageorgos), as well as two assistants (S. Kotsis, K. Velentzas).

The Center performs breast screening, the full range of diagnostic tests and treatments, and all procedures for benign and malignant breast conditions. Moreover, it carries out postoperative monitoring, mainly of breast cancer cases.

The Breast Center also has a Risk Assessment Unit for Women at High Risk of Breast Cancer (D. Keramopoullos), a Physiotherapy & Lymphedema Unit (G. Vlachou), and a Psychological Support Unit (V. Bitsiadou), while it works closely with the Departments of Anatomic Pathology, Radiation Therapy, Medical Oncology, Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

These Departments also participate in the weekly Breast Oncology Board meeting. The secretary of the Oncology Board is a biostatistician associate of the Breast Center, who also keeps the records of the Center and the Statistical Analysis Unit.

The IASO Breast Center is a fully specialized center dedicated to the well-rounded treatment of all breast conditions, from diagnosis to recovery.
