A gynecological pelvic ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive assessment examination of the internal genitalia, the uterus, endometrium and adnexa-ovarie,s which is performed transabdominally and transvaginally. Preventive screening is recommended for all women and especially for those who have:
- Acute or chronic pelvic pain
- Dysmenorrhea
- Dyspareunia
- Primary or secondary amenorrhea
- Menometrorrhagia
- Irregular periods
- Family history of fibroids or neoplasms
- Women of reproductive age who wish to have children
The most common gynecological ultrasound findings are fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, endometrial polyps, uterine anomalies, and hydrosalpinges.
During the examination, color doppler ultrasound and 3D imaging can be used for the best possible evaluation of each finding. The ultrasound is performed by specialized medical personnel and the findings will be discussed in conjunction with the medical history.
