The Clinic’s Ophthalmology department provides services of both diagnosing and treating eye disorders in patients of all ages.

We have created an operating room exclusively for eye operations, to eliminate the chances of infection, and we have equipped it with modern surgical equipment, including surgical microscopes, ultrasound devices, and a phacoemulsification device, which enable us to operate fast and efficiently.

With particular regard to cataracts:

Cataracts are treated using the safe, contemporary method of phacoemulsification. Modern microscopes and high-precision ultrasound devices are used to this end. Phacoemulsification has helped debunk the notion that cataracts can only be operated on when they “mature”. Patients can go home in a matter of hours, even resume their everyday activities. Our rebuilt short-stay wards make the patients’ stay more comfortable in case they need to remain in the Clinic for a few more hours.

Retinal Surgery - Macular Degeneration:

At IASO Thessalias, all retinal conditions are treated in tune with the latest advances in the field, which means the patient can be discharged immediately. We treat cases of simple or complicated retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy (subhyaloid hemorrhage or traction retinal detachment), cataract surgery complications, endophthalmitis (eye infection), as well as the whole range of eye injuries (stitches, removing foreign objects, traumatic detachment, giant macular hole).

We also treat the totality of conditions associated with macular degeneration (macular hole, epiretinal membrane).

Surgery is performed with local anesthesia (except in pediatric cases), using minimally invasive hyaloid dissection (25Gauge) and without stitches.

Pediatric Ophthalmology:

The Pediatric Ophthalmology Department of IASO Thessalias can diagnose and operate on almost every eye condition afflicting children.

The Department’s services include: diagnosing and treating strabismus / amblyopia, nasolacrimal conditions, pediatric cataracts / corneal diseases, problems with eyelids / eye sockets, children’s glaucoma, injuries and poor eyesight.
