Central Laboratories

The Central Labs are among the most important units within IASO, carrying out more than 1,000,000 biomedical lab tests every year. In the 25 years they have been operating, they have gained their reputation owing to their top scientific level, the range of medical exams and the validity of the results. They cover the entire range of diagnostic tests and apply the most modern techniques, in tune with international standards. They operate 24/7, for inpatients and outpatients, and include the following departments:

• Microbiology
• Biochemistry
• Hormonology
• Hematology
• Blood Bank
• Fetal Diagnosis
• Molecular Diagnosis
  

The tests are performed in latest technology analyzers by staff with excellent scientific training and long experience. The labs are all housed within one area, facilitating collaboration between the departments.

Particular attention is paid to the quality of the tests and the validity of the results. To this end, internal quality control and quality assurance programs are followed, in line with the international standards and legislation, while there is participation in external lab inspections by Greek and foreign bodies. The cornerstone of the quality operation of the Central Labs is their continuous certification to ISO 9001 since 2006 and their Medical Tourism accreditation by TEMOS. Recently, the molecular tests of the Central Labs were accredited to ISO 15189:2012 for Medical Laboratories by the National Accreditation System (ESYD).  

The Labs also considerably support clinical studies, according to international standards and the principles of good laboratory practice and bioethics. The findings of the clinical studies are presented every year at Greek and international conferences.
