IASO Children's Hospital: The first laboratory exclusively specialized in all sleep disorders in neonates, infants, children and adolescents

IASO Children's Hospital announces the establishment of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory. The first laboratory exclusively specialized in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of all sleep disorders in neonates, infants, children and adolescents (days-old – 18 years-old).
The organization and operation of the Laboratory is based on internationally recognized standards and requirements in terms of technology, spatial layout and human resource development. The Laboratory’s aim is the diagnosis and treatment of frequent and multiple sleep problems in neonates, infants, children and adolescents in spaces properly designed for these ages and equipped with the most advanced technological means. In the Laboratory, the full range of sleep studies is performed, depending on the clinical question. These range from Oximetry and Capnometry to Full Polysomnography.
The identification, investigation, diagnosis and ultimately the treatment of sleep disorders is the domain and responsibility of a Sleep Specialist, who has undergone special training and has been certified by the competent committee of the Ministry of Health. The Sleep Medicine Team of IASO Children’s Hospital has extensive experience in the field and consists of Ms. Antigoni Papavasileiou, MD, PhD, FAAP, Pediatrician - Neurologist, Director of the Pediatric Neurology Department and Coordinating Director of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory of IASO Children’s Hospital and Ms. Doxa Kotzia, MD, MPH, MSc, PhD, FRCPCH, CCT (UK), Pediatric Pulmonologist – Pediatrician, Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Department and Director of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory of IASO Children's Hospital, as well as specialized personnel (doctors, technologists).
The goal is to approach patients in a holistic manner, through the close collaboration of an interdisciplinary team of all relevant pediatric specialties (e.g. ENT, endocrinologist, neurologist, surgeon).
At the sleep clinic, patients’ medical history is taken, their clinical status is assessed, a clinical examination is performed and an appointment is scheduled for the appropriate sleep study, then a follow-up assessment is conducted with the results and a therapeutic approach is planned. The treatment concerns acute and chronic conditions, in a personalized manner, adapted to the needs of each individual.
