IASO: One-of-a-kind medical case - Successful delivery by a woman who had undergone a heart transplant.
A rare medical case was recently recorded at IASO, the largest Maternity and Gynecology Clinic in Europe. A woman born in 1986, who had undergone a heart transplant in 2015, conceived naturally and gave birth at 35 weeks of gestation to a healthy baby boy, weighing 2,660 grams.
Her pregnancy was exceptionally rare, as it is the first case of pregnancy after a heart transplant in Greece without the need for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Mr. Stavros Fotopoulos, Obstetrician – Gynecologist, Director, Placenta Accreta Spectrum Treatment Department, IASO, alongside Ms. Angeliki Gkouziouta, Cardiologist, Consultant, Heart Failure Unit & Heart Transplant Unit, Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, provided the best possible care to the mother-to-be and her baby, ensuring a successful delivery.
IASO, the largest Maternity and Gynecology Clinic in Europe and the biggest private hospital in Greece, is constantly promoting innovation and specialization in healthcare. This case is yet another demonstration of IASO's commitment to providing specialized care in complex and rare cases.
