IASO General Clinic-IASO Children’s Hospital: The first Pediatric Extracorporeal Lithotripsy in Greece in a Private Hospital
For the first time in Greece, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) on a Child was performed with absolute success.
In particular, at IASO General Clinic, in the most advanced Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy system on a global scale and one-of-a-kind in Greece, with the long-lasting experience and scientific training of both the Director of the department, Mr. Ioannis Christofis, and the experienced staff, the first extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy was performed on a child in Greece, without pain, without anesthesia and without hospitalization. Our young patient got rid of one of his two stones and passed stone fragments one week after the extracorporeal lithotripsy. Until now, minor children were sent abroad to get treated with extracorporeal lithotripsy, with an immense financial burden for both the insurance funds and the parents themselves.
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy constitutes the first choice in the treatment of urolithiasis in adults and minors, as it cures 90% of stones and, as a matter of fact, in a session without pain, without anesthesia and without hospitalization. It is a safe and highly effective method and thus the patient avoids unnecessary, complex and, in many cases, dangerous surgeries.
The model hybrid center of IASO General Clinic and the only one in Greece for the treatment of urolithiasis, has the experience and technology to meet all contemporary challenges in the holistic treatment of urolithiasis.
