First Virtual Reality Lab at Filoktitis
Filoktitis is paving the way with the establishment of the first Virtual Reality Lab, aiming to support patient rehabilitation methods with innovative virtual reality and body interaction technology.
The use of virtual reality in healthcare is a new research field, aspiring to develop groundbreaking apps and tools.
Virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) apps are now used in medicine, telemedicine and other healthcare fields, aiming to train patients, increase and contribute in their rehabilitation, and improve their quality of life in general. In the last few years, advanced VR technologies are becoming the object of all the more clinical studies, with plenty of positive findings.
The Lab at Filoktitis uses VR apps as part of the REACT project (Virtual Reality Medical Rehabilitation).
REACT is carried out in partnership with the Department of Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Principal Investigator is Mr. Serafeim Nanas, Professor of Pathology & Critical Care and Scientific Head of the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Filoktitis Recovery & Rehabilitation Center. Other partners include NOUS VR and Stratis Ltd. The project forms part of the RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE Action, and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national resources through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPAnEK).
