IASO Children’s Hospital promotes Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day with a free of charge pediatric heart surgery
In the context of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, IASO Children’s Hospital shows once again its sensitivity to children in practice, by providing a free of charge pediatric heart surgery to a 10-year old boy. Dr. Georgios Sarris, Chief of the Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital and President of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association, together with his team, Mr. Chrysanthos Alexopoulos, Chief of the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology and Pediatric ICU, and doctors, nurses, and technicians of the Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery and Pediatric Cardiac ICU, successfully performed the heart defect corrective surgery on 14 February 2019. This Day has been established, inter alia, as the Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day, i.e. congenital heart conditions affecting 1% of births, i.e. in Greece it affects 800 children each year. With this surgery, IASO Children’s Hospital and its physicians expressed their love to the hearts of all children even more.
The recovery of the young patient had an excellent progress, and soon the child will be at home completely cured.
The Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital is the only Pediatric Heart Surgery Center in Greece with surgical results certified on a regular basis by the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association – ECHSA Congenital Database, and is a reference center in the wider area for the major complex and high level pediatric heart surgeries it performs.
