Successful FREE OF CHARGE cardiac surgeries on two sisters with congenital heart disease
With a sense of responsibility and social contribution, once more, IASO Children’s Hospital & IASO General, both highlight their social face and provide top quality healthcare services.
Two sisters, aged 17 and 19 years old, were both diagnosed with congenital heart disease requiring cardiac surgery treatment which was not affordable for their family. Both patients were operated free of charge by Dr. Giorgos Sarris, Chief of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital, and his associates.
As Dr. Giorgos Sarris stated, “the condition of the two sisters does not commonly exhibit severe symptoms, and for this reason, if left undiagnosed, it progresses to a slow yet severe and possibly incurable heart and lung disease”.
The condition was diagnosed during a pre-sports check-up. The surgeries were very successful, and both sisters enjoy complete cure and have already resumed their daily activities.
Mrs Niki Papanikolaou, the girls’ mother, stated: “We were treated humanely, greatly. I am lost for words. We were taken care of and embraced, as if we had paid millions of euros –yet, we hadn’t paid a single euro. It’s the first time I experience something like that and I will be grateful to them for the rest of my life. Just by looking at the hospital we were wondering whether we could be able to have them hospitalized there. A huge thank you to you all. To Mr. Sarris and his associates, to the nursing staff, to all those who embraced us and took good care of us. May all be blessed”.
