A successful cochlear implant surgery was recently performed at the Pediatric Clinic of IASO Children’s Hospital on a two-year-old child. The 45-minute procedure was realized via minimal access surgery (MAS) with the assistance of specially designed instruments. The incision length was particularly small – 1.5 cm. It is worth mentioning that the young patient was hospitalized only for a few hours. The cochlear implants are widely used and assist in the restoration of hearing in patients with serious to severe sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The special procedure was performed by Mr. Nikolaos Marangos, Professor of Otolaryngology, collaborator at IASO Children’s Hospital.
