The Gynecologic Oncology Center operates by having as its main purpose and goal the surgical treatment, therapy and cure of women suffering from gynecologic malignancies. It is a comprehensive center that operates according to the international specifications, recommendations and guidelines of both the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) and the American Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO - NCCN).
Adherence to international guidelines, as well as the personalization of treatment according to the needs of each patient, ensure the scientifically substantiated best treatment of their problem.

The Center offers patients with gynecologic cancer comprehensive treatment, from the stage of prevention, valid diagnosis, proper surgical intervention, as well as follow-up after treatment.
It is possible for all patients with gynecologic cancer to receive surgical treatment, via all contemporary forms of surgical intervention.

  • Surgeries to treat all types of gynecologic cancer, personalized for the type of gynecologic cancer, but also the patient being treated.
    The application of minimally invasive surgery in the form of laparoscopic and robotic surgery, where indicated according to international standards, is implemented by the Gynecologic Oncology Center.
  • Radical and ultra-radical surgeries, where indicated according to international standards, as well as the decisions of the Oncology Council.
  • Possibility of collaboration with the assistance of other specialized surgeons in general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery.
  • Debulking surgeries for advanced ovarian cancer and peritoneal disorders and eventual administration of intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
  • Application of lymph node assessment in a conventional surgical manner, but also with the sentinel lymph node technique for endometrial, cervical and vulvar cancer.

Gynecologic oncology is a specialized medical field that deals with the treatment of malignancies of the female reproductive system. Gynecologic cancers are complex diseases, which require specialized treatment and their therapy is related to many factors, such as the organ they affect, the histologic type - type of cancer and the extent of the disease, taking into account the patient’s age, but also their particular needs, demands and preferences. This personalized treatment of gynecologic cancers is carried out by doctors specialized in gynecologic oncology, Gynecologic Oncologists. These doctors provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of gynecologic cancers, specifically cervical, vaginal, vulvar, uterine and ovarian cancer.

Patients with gynecologic cancer are treated within the framework of the Oncology Council decisions, in which Gynecologic Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Radiologists, Pathologists, Clinical Geneticists and Psychologists participate in patients’ multifactorial treatment, based on the recommendations and guidelines applied on a global basis.

The surgical approach of women with gynecologic cancer must be performed by specialized Gynecologic Oncologists aiming for the specialized surgical treatment of patients, which has been proven to offer the best results with regard to therapy and healing.

 

Gynecologic cancer and fertility preservation

The diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers in young women of reproductive age precluded the possibility of childbearing in the past.
Nowadays, the creation, development and establishment of surgical procedures, but also of medical interventions to preserve the fertility of these women, with proper treatment of their oncologic problem, offers young women who desire to have children the possibility of preserving their reproductive capacity.

IASO’s Gynecologic Oncology Surgical Center offers all surgical procedure options and medical interventions so as to preserve the fertility of young women, in particular:

  • Young women with incipient cervical cancer are able to preserve their fertility with the operations of cervical conization, trachelectomy and radical trachelectomy.
  • Young women of reproductive age with incipient endometrial cancer and under specific conditions are able to receive conservative treatment for the disease, with medication.
  • Young women with incipient ovarian cancer and under strict medical selection criteria are given the option of conservative surgical treatment with surgical staging and eventual administration of accompanying chemotherapy.
  • Pregnant women in whom the suspicion or presence of gynecologic malignancy has been established are able to get surgical treatment for the disease, while also preserving the pregnancy and fetus.
  • The application of selected chemotherapy in the form of neoadjuvant - introductory therapy before surgery or adjuvant therapy after surgery provides the possibility of preserving fertility in young women of reproductive age.
