  • Professional Experience

    Mr Costas Panayotidis MRCOG, MSc (Cardf), MSc (Guildf), MSc ( Strg), MD ( Strg), Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a specialist interest in hypofertility, early pregnancy, minimal access surgery and advanced gynaecological ultrasound. Mr Panayotidis was born in the UK in 1973 and studied medicine at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, qualifying in 1997. After completing GP training in 2000 he carried out research into hypo fertility and intrauterine insemination and obtained an MD in Reproductive Science with distinction Tres Honorable. In 2001 he returned to the UK where he completed his full training in obstetrics and gynaecology, obtaining his specialist certification in 2008. Following this Mr Panayotidis completed an MSc in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy with the University of Surrey 2011 and he completed in 2017 a clinical MSc in Advanced Gynaecological Ultrasound in Cardiff University with Distinction. Mr Panayotidis worked as consultant fertility lead in NHS hospitals and private fertility clinics in UK.

  • Clinical Interest
    • He specialises in advanced level of minimal access surgical procedures particularly in fertility including hysteroscopic and laparoscopic diagnostic or operative procedures, conservative or radical. As well he specialises in the management of hypo fertile couples and reproductive medicine.
    • He got significant experience in office hysteroscopic procedures (diagnostic and operative) without the use of anaesthesia (Van Herendael -Bettocchi technique)
    • He has a particular interest on advance gynaecological ultrasound studies including vascular studies, innovative techniques on 3D-4D scanning including interventional ultrasound techniques (OPU). He is passionate with image optimisation and clinical correlation in regard to management including studies for adenomyosis, endometriosis, microflow vascular studies to mention some examples.
    • He got expertise on ultrasound studies investigating fallopian tubal patency (HYCOSY-HYFOSY)
    • He is actively involved in medical education. Mr Panayotidis is member of the faculty: School of Sonography Medical and Educational Academy UK see: ttps://www.meded-academy.com/studying-with-us/about-medical-and-educational-academy/team.  He is one of the few members of the faculty who was trained by the senior members of the academy by Professor Nazar AMSO, founding President of the British Society of Gynaecological Imaging (2008-2018) and current Director at Advanced Medical Simulation Online.

    • Wyeth Research prize 2004: Research specialist registrar initiative in Northwest Deanery, the study was investigating the Serological response to 5T4 oncofetal antigen in pregnancy, UK.
    • Awarded the Traveling Fellowship of the British Endoscopic Society in 2006. One-year training in advanced endoscopy in Belgium Universities: Universities of Brussels Professor Donnez, Liege Professor Nisolle, and Antwerp Professor Van Herendael.
    • “I want Great Care” award of clinical excellence in 2017 and 2018 as one of the top UK O&G Consultants based on NHS healthcare reviews.
    • Award of Employee of the Year 2017 in IOW NHS Trust nominated by islanders for outstanding care

    • The recent guidelines on oocyte pick up standards of practice, produced by European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in 2019 were based on his MSc dissertation in Ultrasound practice. Mr C Panayotidis was member of the expert panel responsible for the production of this guideline and his substantial contribution was acknowledged internationally

  • Research

    Mr Panayotidis is currently involved with research projects on behalf of ESHRE with particular interest of ultrasound standards of practice for Oocyte Pick Techniques, invasive ultrasound and Embryo transfer Technique. Mr C P has extensive experience with DELPHI survey technique and he is working close with ESHRE senior members in order to critically evaluate the Embryo transfer techniques and propose standards of practice for ESHRE. Beginning of the next year 2022 a review publication is scheduled for the Journal of Human Reproduction.
