World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) has been established by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and has been celebrated on August 1-7 every year since 1992. In our country, Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year on November 1-7. This action is supported by UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministries of Health in many countries. It is a campaign that aims to raise awareness among citizens and health professionals on issues related to breastfeeding and its promotion, in order to achieve the goal set by the WHO, for 50% of infants to be exclusively breastfed by 2025.

This year, the theme for World Breastfeeding Week is:

“Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support”

Objectives of WBW 2022

  1. To inform people about their role in strengthening the warm chain of support for breastfeeding
  2. To anchor breastfeeding as part of good nutrition, food security and reduction of inequalities
  3. To engage with individuals and organizations along the warm chain of support for breastfeeding
  4. To galvanize action on strengthening the capacity of actors and systems for transformational change
